Science finds? answers, religion buries it and asserts lies.
By: drumsandguitar74. on 22 May 12, 06:30:11
Science has? all the answers...yeah right.

True, the thumbnail should be a giveaway, but I suppose Michael Shermer appeals to people with curious minds instead of those who draw conclusion based on? little evidence (like thumbnail with talking head in it). Then again the 260+ dislikers might just be hungry people trying to better themselves at finding sausage

I see your point. I'd expand on it by wondering why they would 'click' on it in the first place ? What does? a title like this hold for the semi-curious . . . . ? If I don't like something, I'm not a masochist. I walk away, not subjecting myself to it. Hey . . . . kids. Whatcha' gonna' do, huh ?

There's no baloney thinking a talking head video is boring. Why they come to youtube? searching for something else is beyond me though
By: ReasonNaturally. on 17 May 12, 01:12:19
268 people are full of baloney. Kidding aside, what would be the problem that any person of even? halfway reasonable sensibilities would have with Mr. Shermer's video ? ( If any of the balonified 268 were trollin' for naughty pics, oh, so sad. " What ? Where's the boner ? The title said ' baloney ' ! LAME ! " ) He's not making any claims one-way-or-another. He's merely providing the tools to question, examine, as any informed, logical person should do. Otherwise . . . . you're a fucking moron.

My Science Teacher Mr. Robles and Issaquah Highschool assigned? us to watch this video.

Evolution has been proven, and I said carbon-dating because it tells us how old the fossils were, so we're able to see that they're older than fossils of current day organisms, so we can come to a conclusion that those fossils are the common ancestor, if the fossils of current day organisms are not as old. The reason evolution is still called? a theory, is because there could be more to it that changes what we already know, but the basics are true, all organisms originated from a common ancestor.
By: spec24. on 16 May 12, 15:26:14
Theories aren't proven, and? carbon dating doesn't prove evolution, it only tells us how old something is. Next time try something like DNA mapping, and the relationships between organisms genetic code. That's the best evidence that evolution exists.
By: spec24. on 16 May 12, 15:23:31
Dude, you lost your argument as soon as you included evolution. Go out, do some reading, discover what a scientific theory is.?
By: TheFlammableGas. on 12 May 12, 01:12:13
First of all, what scientists fudged what numbers? That doesn't explain why polar bears are becoming endangered and losing their habitat, nor does it determine the damage done to our ozone layer. Secondly, evolution HAS been proven. It's been proven with carbon-dating on fossils found in the Earth's layers, and the fossils and bones of previous evolutionary stages of organisms? found in certain layers. It's simply called a "theory" because it could change. One question... do you watch Fox News?
By: TheFlammableGas. on 12 May 12, 01:10:37
If you actually studied? physics instead of taking physics in middle school, then you wouldn't have that stance. If science cannot prove it whatsoever, then it is not real, it is what we call "supernatural".
By: JenniJae5. on 10 May 12, 22:49:19
Sorry, but Shermer lost credibility presenting the Baloney Detection? Kit when he clung to global warming and evolution as fact. Nothing wrong with the BDK, but evidence has come out that some GW scientists fudged the numbers, and evolution remains as yet unproven despite how many people "say" it's true. I'd like to see more honest looks at both these theories, but I think it's become too political unfortunately... Nice presentation otherwise on the BDK (esp when he stuck to verifiable examples).

You studied physics, and yet you disagree with EVERYTHING that he said? Because there are questions that science can't yet answer, it should be discounted? Have you ever heard the expression that one should be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water? Your statement is a case in point. Negative statement with no real supporting evidence, and unable to better explain what current scientific theory can. Yup. Clear case of? baloney. Thanks for playing.
By: mmcintosh175. on 02 May 12, 18:08:56
Your comments fail the baloney detection criteria. All negative statements. No positive evidence. Position taken for personal or political reasons. Therefore, your comments fall into the baloney category. Thanks? for playing.

I had the same experience. I undertook a major study? of the Bible and early Christian writings. When I learned and applied the methods of higher Biblical criticism, it was clear that the system of beliefs held by Christianity were like a house of cards. Having been raised in a deeply religious household, it was a tough thing to face. Thanks for sharing your experience. It's good to know that there are many of us who didn't start out as religious skeptics, but ended up there, all the same.

Science is self-correcting, and yes it is always evolving. Science will never have all of the answers, as each discovery that is made, tested and corroborated raises more questions than it answers. Saying that science should be in any way discounted because it doesn't have all? of the answers is like saying a library should be criticized for not having all of the books. Science is more than a finite body of knowledge. It's our method for investigating and testing our understanding of the world.

This needs to be broadcast on every channel for at least? an hour a day until everyone stops being stupid
By: osaka35. on 29 Apr 12, 21:09:15
wat.?
By: drche420. on 29 Apr 12, 08:31:25
Nobody claimed science has discovered all the ways to measure things. It? would be incorrect to say science has discovered all the ways to do anything.
By: danynumero6. on 28 Apr 12, 02:16:32
Well 1st of all, of course science? doesn't have all the answers, yet anyways, but it continues to reveal the truth every day. 2nd of all, being skeptical is being open-minded. It means you aren't completely satisfied you with what you are told, you want to learn and reach your full potential.

"Point? 4. Does this fit with the way the world works?" This one skeptical question is what made all my Christian beliefs come crashing down into nothing.
By: yorrel. on 20 Apr 12, 12:21:43
this was really good,? openned my eyes a bit.
